Pharmacy Is the Family Business
Barry’s passion for community pharmacy was passed down to his three daughters, all of whom graduated from South Carolina College of Pharmacy. The eldest, Vanessa Hoffman, oversees geriatric health at Barney’s, making sure medications for long-term care patients are divided into easy-to-use, clearly marked daily doses. With special accreditation in geriatric pharmacy, Vanessa visits nearby nursing homes to review the medication chart of each resident, making sure the treatments do not overlap or cause harmful interactions. Vanessa also manages the Specialty Department at Barney’s Pharmacy, which provides more support for patients undergoing treatments in certain disease states including: oncology, hepatitis, cystic fibrosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and many more.
The middle daughter, Stephanie Tankersley, has always been interested in overall health and wellness. She developed and implemented a chair aerobics class that is taught three times weekly at the Barney’s Pharmacy in Augusta and was featured in the New York Times. Stephanie is the pharmacist-in-charge at the Grovetown location where the Bryant’s family-centered approach to customer service is evident.
The youngest daughter, Brittany Smith, specializes in the business side of Barney’s, working alongside her father and taking ownership in the day-to-day management of the retail pharmacy. She is now sharing in the oversight of all eight pharmacy locations.
